Isn’t it wonderful when everything you’ve planned for, starts to come together? Perhaps after months, or maybe years, something you’ve longed for finally happens. It might be the holiday of a lifetime, a move to a new home in Spain, or that long-cherished new car is finally delivered.
What do you do when the plans seem to fall into disarray and the desired result seems to sail off into the sunset leaving you stranded?
At Wellspring Church it had long been our desire to be located on Camposol where we could be in a community with a large percentage of English speaking people.
For many years Wellspring Church was established in Puerto de Mazarrón and we could have remained there, safely tucked up in our comfort zone, but about two and a half years ago we felt God was telling us He was about to do something new. We prayed about this, but got no further until eighteen months ago when God told us to get up and move out of our comfortable premises and start the move to Camposol. We gave notice to our landlady and moved out with excitement and trepidation and just as the Covid restrictions started to ease we found our new resting place at the Trevi Bar – well the room over the bar actually!
The long-cherished plans to be on Camposol had come to a conclusion and we met five, or was it six times and started to settle in to our new Sunday location.
It was all going rather well with everyone knowing what their role was in setting up equipment etc and the services were a blessing to our Church family and we trust a blessing to Father God. Then, just as all the plans for the next Sunday Service were in place, there was the text message – “Just checking if we have access to Trevi Bar on Sunday. Wondered if the fire had affected our room?”
That burst our bubble and left us in great turmoil. The fire meant that we didn’t have access for the next few weeks. Was this the end of our plans to be on Camposol? Should we have left our old location? What happens next?
The human response was to make plans so some sort of meeting could take place and second was to pray for the future.
Our whole Church and friends were called to pray and plans were made to revert to having our services online. After just two weeks we got word that we could return to the Trevi Bar, meanwhile asking us to continue praying for the bar that all will be completed for them very soon.
Have you ever found yourself in that situation where the whole world seems to come crashing down around you? What did you do? Did you cry, scream, shout at God, or did you pray?
There’s an old hymn that starts:
What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer.
There it is in a nutshell. It’s not the place of last resort. It is much easier in a place of great trial to shout at God than to close our eyes and pray.
Wellspring Church believe in the power of prayer. If you are in the midst of things collapsing all around, why not come to God in prayer. We would love to pray with you and for you. We meet every Sunday in the room above Trevi Bar at 11am. Why not come and join us? You will be made very welcome.
