When will we get back to normal?
There’s been a lot of talk about ‘normal’ and the ‘new normal’, whatever that may be.

A few weeks back we thought things were getting better bit by bit and then all of a sudden; a bit like in a game of snakes and ladders, comes a crash and we found ourselves heading back to square one.

What is normal?
A writer and humourist once wrote; ‘normal’ is just a setting on your hairdryer. I suppose she meant that ‘normal’ is pretty much what we want it to be and there is no finite definition, so where does that put us with a ‘new normal’ being promised? You may well think that one man’s normal is nowhere near your idea of ‘normal’.
The reality is that there is no earthly standard of what is ‘normal’. The whole COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that there is no consistency. You may think your town or city has continuously fared well, but for some, that situation has come crashing down and even here in this reasonably safe corner of Spain we saw Totana suddenly faced with a return to phase one.

What can be seen to be consistent?
Nothing on this planet appears consistent right now, so where can we turn to find consistency?

In the Bible there is the report of Moses in conversation with God. In the Book of Exodus Chapter 3, God has asked Moses to approach Pharaoh and ask him to release the Children of Israel. Moses panicked at this and we read:
13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, “The God of your fathers has sent me to you” and they ask me, “What is his name?” Then what shall I tell them?’
14 God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: “I AM has sent me to you.”
God’s reply did not say “I was who I was.” or “I will be who I will be.” It is a statement of consistency; “I am who I am.”

If we look in the Book of Hebrews, we read in Chapter 3 verse 18
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.
Here are words of encouragement for us in this time of uncertainty. Father God and His Son Jesus Christ are consistently the same – They were, They are and They will always be.

Isn’t it good to know that whenever we need help, reassurance or encouragement, we can turn to the creator of the universe and know that He will be there – the same today as He has always been?
In these difficult times, many of us are looking for continuity and consistency and there is only one place to turn. Will you turn to the God who never changes – the God who loves you with an everlasting, unchanging love?

Wellspring Church has had to rethink what is normal over the past four months. The doors of our building have been closed, but we have embraced modern technology and each week we have broadcast our service on YouTube where we have given thanks, praise and worship to our God.
Will we be open in September?
That will depend on local regulations. If we are open, we will meet at 11am at Casa Sol (near El Alcolar). If not we will be online (search YouTube for Wellspring Sunday 6th Sept).

Online, or in our building, we will worship the God who is consistent and faithful always.
