A well-known song from 1993 by Jimmy Cliff starts with the line “I can see clearly now the rain has gone”.
Over the past few weeks one thought that has been on everybody’s mind has been the weather. It’s normally a British thing -talking about the weather. But this year the Spanish people seem equally preoccupied. It has been suggested that 2021/2022 winter will have been the wettest year for over fifty years.
By the time this article is published it has to be hoped that the rain will have gone and that warm days lie ahead. After all it’s what we came to Spain for isn’t it?
The rain will have gone and we will be able to see clearly won’t we? But it isn’t just the rain that impairs our ability to see what lies ahead.
The Bible gives us many predictions for the future and lays out in straightforward terms the path laid before us. In the book of Proverbs chapter 3 you will find these words
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight
For those of us who know and love the Lord Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as Saviour then we can see clearly now and the road ahead is clearly defined.
The road ahead will at times be bumpy. There will be situations we would prefer not to happen at all but we can face these knowing that He who paid it all will walk alongside us in the good times and the bad.
Just over a week ago we celebrated Easter which is of course when we remember the suffering of Good Friday and the triumph of Easter Sunday.
When we look back over our lives, maybe when we were young, we thought we could see the way ahead clearly – a straight career path, a happy marriage and then a long enjoyable retirement.
But then for most of us the clear view of a straight path is very different from the truth – a squiggly backwards and forwards round about line with many dips and peaks.
For most of us who know the Lord Jesus we can see His hand at work in our lives leading and guiding us and we know His presence has been with us especially in the difficult times.
And the future? It’s as bright as the promises of God – that He is with us always and He has gone to prepare a place for us with Him in heaven for all eternity.
Can you see clearly now? Has the rain lifted from your life? We want to invite you to join us and find out more about this loving Jesus who walks with us on both the broad and narrow paths in our lives.
At Wellspring Church you will find a group of people from all walks of life who have come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour. You will find people who have conquered mountains alongside people who are just learning to climb. There are people who would love to come alongside you and tell you more about our Saviour, Jesus.
We meet every Sunday at 11am in the event room above Trevi Bar on Camposol Sector B. We promise you a warm welcome in a friendly environment, probably as a church like you’ve not experienced before but one with a clear direction for our eternal future.
