We witnessed on TV recently how angry mobs were pulling down and defacing statues, particularly of those people who had been involved in the slave trade or had made their fortunes because of it.

Here in Spain they treat statues very differently. With great care and reverence, they load them onto carts or carry them in parades through the streets with everyone celebrating and rejoicing. (Unfortunately, like a lot of things, this hasn’t happened much this year.)

We need never attempt to carry God around in the form of a statue or a cross because He says “Do not carry me … I will carry you.”

God has carried us and taken our burdens. He has carried us and taken us through these difficult months of lockdown. He is still carrying us through.

Those of us who know Him and love Him know that He has carried us from birth – that He loves us with an everlasting love.

Most of us have fond memories of sitting on our Dad’s shoulders when we were small. We felt so big up there and safe. We felt we could conquer the world and slay dragons. We weren’t afraid of anything up there. That is how the Lord carries us.

Like that lovely song says:-

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.

It says in the Book of Genesis – the first book in the Bible: “The one the Lord loves rests between His shoulders.” In other words, carried on His shoulders.

We can have such eternal security knowing that as we get older He’ll carry us.

In Isaiah Chapter 46 God says:-

You never had to carry me, but I have carried you from birth.
I supported you from the moment you left the womb.[
f]
Even as you grow old and your hair turns gray,
I’ll keep carrying you!
I am your Maker and your Caregiver.
I will carry you and be your Savior.

He has carried us all the days of our lives; carried us in His heart even before we were conceived; carried us with Him to Calvary and carried us into the realms of Eternity and seated us with Him in heavenly places.

What a joy it is to know that we never will have to carry Him or His image around and that He will always, always, carry us every single day of our lives through whatever difficulties we face and afterwards carry us up to be with Him forever.

Do you know the security of Him carrying you? Do you know Him as your loving Heavenly Father? If not, then we would love to talk to you. Please get in touch.

We are planning (Covid 19 permitting) to run an Alpha Course in September. Come and join us and find out more about the One who loves you and longs to carry you on His shoulders.
