Whilst back in the UK, walking through the shopping centre, we came across a tiny tot all dressed up in a frilly dress with her patent shoes and white frilly ankle socks, trotting along quite happily on her own behind her dad, taking in everything around her. She was an absolute delight! Suddenly in front of her path there was a small grille in the pavement.  She stopped dead and began whimpering. Immediately dad was by her side offering a finger for her to grasp which she took hold of and proceeded to walk across the grille confidently, without the slightest hesitation. She could have easily walked around it, so why was she so determined to walk over it and why was she so sure that with dad by her side to hold on to she could do it? Oh for such trust.

I’m sure you can see where I’m going here.

How often do we set off on a course of action we think we are capable of to get so far down the line, only to become overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation? At this point we have to decide whether or not to just give up, or be determined to carry on.

In the back of our minds we are not really willing to let go, so what do we do?

Why not grasp a finger, safe in the knowledge that you will be brought through safely to the other side?

Just as the child had complete trust in her father, so we as children of God can have complete trust in God our Father to see us through. Scripture says He will never leave us or forsake us. Look for yourself – Hebrews 13:5
