I must start this article with an apology to my WARM friends. Last month I completely forgot that there had been a night-time walk in July. This is how Jess summed it up:
20 people of 9 nationalities enjoyed Monday’s night walk from Fuente Caputa. The moon lit our path very atmospherically through the high middle section – Martin had timed the departure to perfection.
The midnight picnic (thank you for the plums Rob, and Elena) from the rocks, serenaded by the water (and frogs!) created an unforgettable ending. The walk leader’s view “A wonderful and atmospheric walk in the moonlight and darkness at Fuente Caputa. It’s been a long time since we did this traditional moonlight walk. It was great to see everyone and the midnight picnic was magical.”
Some of the photos look very ethereal due to the fading light. Fuente Caputa is a lovely walk at anytime and it is featured in our walking book which is still available. (Email us if you would like to know where you can buy it.)
We have also had some walk leaders braving the warm weather and doing recces (checking our routes) for the forthcoming season. Martin and Jess have a new walk in the Sierra de Ricote called La Facarola. The pictures look fabulous. Allen, Sue and Jane have been checking out the trail for our first walk. David has been plotting a new route in Bullas.
Our other activity this month has been our AGM. The formal business part is a necessity as part of our registration with the Region of Murcia, but this was a brief 30 minutes to receive a report of our activity during the year, to approve the finances and to make changes to our insurance arrangements. One of our members Jane has a fabulous big house overlooking Cehegin and she hosted the party. The rest of the evening was a social event with a shared buffet, a few drinks and then listening to La Criba, an acoustic Rock and Roll band. There was even an opportunity for a bit of dancing and one brave soul used the pool – the water was about 26ºC. It was great to be able to socialise together and a huge thank you to everyone who contributed.
One of our newest members came to the AGM and commented “We thoroughly enjoyed yesterday’s AGM/get together. Fabulous venue and such welcoming people.”
We have printed T-shirts this year and are hoping to have them available for members to buy and promote our very friendly group.
