On towards Pueblo de Mula
On towards Pueblo de Mula

In the last edition I wrote about our Christmas walk and we then have a break as many of our walkers spend time with family overseas over Christmas.  During this period Martin, our President and walk organiser, together with David our SWARM organiser revised our programme and we are delighted that we can now offer more walks in 2022. We are hugely grateful to our band of voluntary walk leaders and also that we have some new people leading walks this year. Hopefully the guide we worked on during lockdown has been useful.

Trisha and Mel organised an extra Boxing day walk, they started in Mula and walked on the via verde to Pueblo de Mula where they enjoyed tapas at Juanjo’s. The food there is always good and everyone enjoyed it. It was a really good way to walk off some of that Christmas Day food.

We resumed our 2022 season on Wednesday 12th January in a walk led by David in an area of Bullas called the Ucenda valley. Originally the forecast had been for rain but on the day it was crisp with blue skies and perfect for walking.  Our second walk on Saturday 15th was back in the park, Coto de las Maravillas, in Cehegin where we had walked in September.

The landscape was very different between the two walks – the first was amongst the recently ploughed and beautifully kept fields  and with stunning mountain views. The almond blossom was already obvious and very early, and some of the trees were almost in full bloom. There was also evidence of the processionary caterpillars which are a real hazard for dog owners.

The second walk was amongst the pine forests and there had been a clearing operation with lots of stacked and trimmed logs and a wonderful aroma of freshly cut pine. The views from the top of Mirador on the WARM walk were spectacular.

The Bullas walk was for the SWARM group so these walks tend to be easier and simpler and are designed for people who are either getting less fit as they get older or after injury or illness and wanting to get fitter after a spell with less exercise.

Our Saturday walk was wonderfully co-ordinated so that there was both a WARM and SWARM. We started and finished at the same point and also had a picnic together. Well done to Sue, Allen and Jane and if this was a trip advisor review they would get an extra star for the picnic stop complete with seats, tables and Spanish biscuits. Usually we are looking for rocks or logs etc to sit on!
