Following the July AGM and with Minutes and Treasurer’s Reports accepted by the membership, the timetable for the new season is completed and we’re under way!

As with all of our activities, we try to encourage an atmosphere where everybody is involved in the organisation and so all of our walks are guided by members who volunteer for the day and I have to beg their generous support. This season has been no exception – so far more than 50 people have collaborated to offer 24 walks with 3 more in reserve for the season to come. What a group of troopers!

By the time you read this we will have completed the first two walks of the season (both Saturdays):

On 21st September, Martin & I led a long, steep and challenging route up and over the Sierra de Ricote. Luckily for some, our friends Bob and Bridget, (who’d missed the Full Moon Walk which had been held in the same area), led a group of more sensible WARMers around a shorter and less mountainous, alternative route – a slightly longer version of the one which we did under the July full moon. The photographs are from the peaks in the Sierra de Ricote. I still maintain that there are five hills, but Martin says only four – we’ll have to take a group decision about it.

A week later on the following Saturday 28th, Angela and Les were guides for their first time ever with WARM, leading a new route through the Rambla de Benito (Sierra del Oro). After the route they very generously entertained everyone to food and drink at their home – not a bad start for a pair of first-timers.

Something that I’d intended to mention some time ago:

At a Committee meeting long ago in April, we voted to purchase three simple First Aid kits. Treasurer Fiona duly obliged and so they were available for the first time on the September walks. Hopefully they’ll never be needed!

Walks in October: (date, leaders: and approximate location)

  • Saturday 5th – Carla & Douwe – Caravaca
  • Saturday 26th – Juana Mari & Juan Antonio – Coy

Walks in November:

  • Saturday 2nd Bob & Bridget – Caves of Zaén
  • Saturday 16th – Tina & Kevin – Cenajo Reservoir
  • Saturday 23rd – Alfonso – Archivel/Barranda
  • Saturday 30th – Norma & Chris – Casas Nuevas

By the way, Tony still hasn’t shared the lyrics to the “Hymn to WARM” (played at our AGM). I think he’s afraid of the outcome if we try to form a choir!

Details of future outings will be sent automatically to those who are on the WARM mailing list, normally about a fortnight ahead. If anyone would like their email address adding, please contact me (Jessica) on

Please indicate your nearest town (I don’t need a full address).

Note: Only those on the mailing list can access the closed WARM Facebook page.

The majority of outings are in the northwest of the region (approx 1½ hours’ drive from the coast).
