Wednesday 15th December – Marina Golf, Mojacar.
For our end of year meeting 23 players travelled to Marina Golf, Mojacar, for what turned out to be a most enjoyable day. We were collected by Alfonso of Mateo Autocares at 8am, and taken down to Mojacar where we were greeted with Coffee and Bacon Rolls by David at the Tennis Club opposite Marina Golf. Thank you to David and his staff for serving 23 hungry players so promptly. We were then split into teams of 4 (one team of 3) to play a team competition under Pinehurst rules. The weather was a little overcast, so it was mandatory for each player to have a shot of Brandy on the first tee, which saw everybody off in the best of spirits!
The competition turned out to be a fiercely fought affair, with some high scores being returned (your author returning a never to be repeated score of 52 points!), and everybody said that they really enjoyed their rounds. Enormous thanks must go to Kirk Lovell, the Director of Golf at Marina Golf, who organised the whole day for us – what a tremendous job he did! Also, to all his staff at Marina golf for making the day so enjoyable.
After the golf had been completed, we were driven by Alfonso to The Delfin Dorada Restaurant on the Seafront at Mojacar Playa for our Prize Giving Dinner. Again, great thanks go to Juan and all of his staff for making us feel so welcome! The winners of the team competition were Steve Carter, Terry Haggerty, Gary Lemoinahan and Paddy Teakle – Congratulations!
We also presented our ‘Player of the Year Trophy’. This year it went to Roy Alderslade – congratulations on consistent scoring throughout 2021. Second place went to Terry Haggerty, and Third place to Wyn Griffiths.
We were then collected by Alfonso, and safely returned to Camposol in high spirits!
If any golfers (male or female) would like to join our society we would be delighted to welcome you, please contact
