For the January competition Straight Down the Middle Golf Society travelled to Hacienda del Alamo. It was probably the worst weather we have experienced for our monthly competition for many a year. ‘Hurricane Hacienda’ had taken full hold on the golf course and even the party of Norwegian golfers that were in attendance decided to go off somewhere different that day. It was reminiscent of Scott versus Amundsen trying to get to the South Pole, but the Brits came out on top this time! Nonetheless the brave (or foolhardy) members of Straight Down the Middle Golf Society set off into the teeth of the hurricane to play what is already one of the longest courses in Spain, made even longer, because no matter which direction we were playing in, the wind was in our faces. This meant that scoring was difficult to say the least and as a group we probably returned the worst set of scores due to the wind blowing balls off the greens and even 3ft putts were being blown 20ft past the hole when the wind got hold of them!

Our thanks go to the staff at Hacienda as the course was in great condition and the greens were lightning quick as there was an amateur championship being played there a few days later (hence the Norwegians) and weather aside everyone seemed in good spirits when we returned to Trevi Bar on Camposol for our prize giving and much needed hot chip butties! Thank you to Trevi Bar for being so accommodating as usual!
