On what was forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far and the threat of a Calima as well, the 30 intrepid golfers from Straight Down the Middle Golf Society set off into the deserts of Almeria to play our monthly competition at Valle del Este. It was through gritted teeth (literally) that we drove off the first tee, and began our rounds on a course that was in great condition.
Nonetheless, after around 5 hours it was like the closing scene from the film ‘Ice Cold in Alex’ as players dragged themselves from the 18th green straight into the air conditioned bar to quench their thirsts!
Our thanks go to all the staff at Valle del Este for making our visit so enjoyable. We then embarked on our return journey to Trevi Bar on Camposol for prize giving, accompanied by more liquid refreshment and chip butties. Thank you to the management and staff at Trevi bar for their hospitality as always.
