It was a bit of a shock for all of the members of the Straight Down the Middle Golf Society who had entered the May competition, having to be boarding a coach bound for Alicante Golf at 7am, but spirits were high as many members were playing a new course for the first time. I think everyone was pleased with the condition and interesting nature of the course, with 6 par threes, six par fours and 6 par fives, with plenty of water and even a Roman ruin to negotiate during our rounds.
We played a team competition based on the ‘Yellow Peril’ rules, with teams of 4, the best three scores counting on each hole including the yellow ball. Any teams that kept their original yellow ball for the whole round received bonus points. Unfortunately at least one team lost their yellow ball after a wayward tee shot off the first tee! No names – No pack drill!
Our thanks must go to Autocares Mateo for their excellent service in transporting us safely up to and back from Alicante and also to all the staff at Alicante Golf for making us feel so welcome. It looks like this could be a fixture to look forward to for next year.
