Straight Down the Middle Golf Society members travelled a short hop to Lorca Golf Club for our October competition. It was a lovely sunny day with barely any breeze, which made for a most enjoyable day’s golf. 27 players took part and despite the rumour that there would not be enough buggies for everyone, only one person ended up having to walk – well done Rob Greatley!

The only disappointment for the day was that the bar was not open for coffee and brandies before we set off. A vending machine has been installed, which produced very sweet coffee at €1 a cup. I can’t help feeling that golf club houses (not only Lorca) could benefit more from opening their bar when they have societies playing. Having said that, the staff made us very welcome and our thanks go to Lorca Golf Club for all the hard work they have done. The greens were in good condition and as a result of the hot summer that we have experienced this year, the fairways were enabling the ball to run a good distance, which is always a relief for the high handicap golfer!

We returned to our home base of Trevi Bar, Camposol B, for prize giving and some well-earned refreshments. Our thanks, as always, go to the management and staff for making us so welcome.
