Activities in January and February
We are now very pleased to announce we have a newly named Fellowship Group. The group meets once or twice a month usually on a Wednesday afternoon from 2-5pm. It is a time set aside for fellowship, friendship and chatter with something to eat; maybe a light lunch or just cake and sandwiches. The group is open to all.
On 23rd January we had an afternoon of fun and laughter at the Fellowship Group High Tea; the first of many it is hoped.

On 12th February, the newly named Fellowship Group had a special St Valentine’s Coffee and Cake Afternoon with the Singalong Group to entertain them. A fantastic afternoon and the singing was wonderful.
Tuesday 25th February was our annual Pancake Party. Hopefully this was well supported with much fun and laughter throughout the afternoon.
Wednesday 26th February was our Ash Wednesday Service followed by the AGM
Spring is surely coming. Already we can see the wonderful spring flowers as they slowly emerge from the cold and wet of winter. It is one of life’s miracles that anything could possibly be thinking of growth and yet there they are; the brave little plants that cheer our spirit providing us with a fabulous carpet of colour. These flowers are a visible sign of hope in a world where hope can sometimes be in short supply. As Christians we have a message of hope for the future that will never be weakened in any way.
Mothering Sunday on March 22nd, is a holiday celebrated by Christians in the UK and some other countries. It falls on the 4th Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Day. On this Sunday we put aside the austereness of Lent as we celebrate this special day. During Lent some of the stricter churches do not allow flowers on the altar, but on Mothering Sunday this is relaxed and we can enjoy flowers in the church and on the altar. Once observed as a day on which people would visit their ‘mother church’, it has become an occasion for honouring our mothers. It is customary for children to give gifts to their mothers on this day. In some churches the ladies are handed a daffodil. At St Nicholas we present each lady with the gift of a plant in keeping with this tradition.
