Spangles Fundraising Continues

Spangles Ladies’ Harmony Chorus is known for supporting local charity fundraisers and have helped MABS San Javier, Cruz Azul Murcia and Finca La Castellana in San Miguel de Salinas.

Spangles also took part in a fundraiser for the victims of the recent flooding in Los Alcázares, alongside local groups La Rondalla Son del Mar Menor and Agrupación Coral Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Los Alcázares.

“We witnessed the devastation of the flooding in September and some of us helped with the clear up and replacement of household items lost, so we were delighted to be able to raise funds to help even further. Thank you to all our supporters who gave so generously” said Spangles Chorus Manager, Lyn.

At their concert to celebrate International Women’s Day, on behalf of all the participants, Spangles presented the Town Hall with a cheque for 1100€ for the Los Alcázares Flood Fund.

Next stop was the C Breeze Cocktail Lounge to help celebrate St David’s Day with staff and customers. This was quite a challenge this year as some of the chorus members treated them to a rendition of ‘Myfanwy’, which was beautifully arranged in four part harmony by friend and composer, Liz Lane.

“It was probably the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my singing career” remarked Spangles Musical Director, Valerie Lynch, who has sung with Pavarotti in her youth. Hailing from America and operatically trained, Valerie says that the lyrics were the most difficult she has ever had to learn. Accompanied by Wendy Grant and Lynda Christopher (a native Welsh speaker) and backed by Spangles, they gave a beautiful performance and owner, Derrick, said that they would have done any Welsh choir proud. It was a super night of celebration, with 500€ raised, 250€ of which will be donated to Help at Home Costa Blanca and 250€ kindly donated to help with Spangles’ expenses to get to Belgium.

“Our support of charities is ongoing,” said Lyn “and our next fundraising event is at the Vega Baja Spring Fayre on 8th April in the Casa De Cultura, Plaza Jaime, San Miguel De Salinas, just after we return from Belgium. We hope that people will take the opportunity to come and hear us and support this great charity.”

Spangles is a ladies’ a cappella chorus, singing in four part harmony. They rehearse every Thursday, from 10.15am to 1.15pm at Centro Municipal Las Claras, Calle Helena, Los Narejos, Los Alcázares and visitors are always welcome.
