Exhibition The Sea of Art ‘Cover of Trending Tropics @ El Batel (until 30th September)

Collaborations of different musicians recorded between Chile, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Spain with the son of Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Li Saumet, vocalist of the Colombian electropop group Bomba Estéreo, Pucho, from Vetusta Morla, Afro-Colombian singer Nidia Góngora and iLe, the sister of Cabra Martínez who sang for a decade with Calle 13. Not only each song is unique, but also the 14 covers that illustrate them. A graphic set designed by Alberto González Arellanos can be visited within the La Mar de Música Festival and framed in La Mar de Arte.

Medieval Dinners at the Castillo de la Concepción in Cartagena Port of Cultures (until 6th September)

At midnight, torches will light up and illuminate the Castillo de la Concepción where actors will participate in a moment of history as if we were back 600 years, returning to the end of the Middle Ages. This is a very special way of showing the Renaissance, where Cartagena and the port rejoins the crown of Castile. 

Catholic Monarchs, Isabel and Fernando, accompanied by their court of Jews and Muslims, will unveil real events that took place in the city’s port. There will be cooking demonstrations etc making us travel back in time. 60 people will be seated overlooking the sea and the magnificent illuminated tower. Artisan breads with potatoes, fish, sausages and a variety of cheese, fruits and hummus from different places of the Mediterranean will be on offer and main courses of grilled ribs, pork leg etc. Delicious desserts, as in the Middle Ages, will be served with good wine or beer. 55€. 9.30pm.

A History Made Party Exhibition @ Museum of Roman Theatre(until 7th October)

Visitors will take a tour of all the events such as the Qart Hadasht Foundation by the Carthaginian Asdrúbal, Aníbal’s wedding, the destruction of Sagunto, the departure of Aníbal’s army to Romeand the Great Battle. It ends with the conquest of Qart Hadast at the hands of General Publio Cornelio Escipión.

Black Literature, Police and Mystery Days – 3rd-7th September @ El Batel Municipal Auditorium, Mister Witt Café and the Santos Ochoa Bookstore

Tuesday 3rd September – Black Novel Prize Icue Negro @ Mister Witt Café 9.30pm. This is an award for young writers of stories. At the same time the meetings with the participating authors of the first day of Cartagena Negra will take place until 5.30pm. At 7pm the opening and presentation of the festival to the media.

Wednesday 4th September 5.30pm @ El Batel – Sergeant Emilia, Benjamín Celdrán and Marcelino Sempere will participate in the presentation of ‘The Black Gender and Children’. At the same time @ Santos Ochoa Bookstore, Claudio Celdrán will present his work ‘Los Señorres Del Humo’.

6.45pm @ El Batel – the first short film finalist of the contest will be screened. At 7pm, Graziella Moreno, Rosa Ribas and David Llorente participate in ‘Black and Noir’ moderated by Javier Manzano. At 9pm ‘De Cañas Negra in Mister Witt Café’ with the authors in Cartagena Negra and at 9.30pm a play ‘Gregor Samsa’

Tuesdays in September – Citizens of an Empire. Theatralized Routes

Saturdays in September two dramatized routes through different enclaves of the port area of Cartagena.

The Adventure of Columbus – Christopher Columbus awaits us at the Castillo de la Concepción to discover new worlds, ending with a trip on the Tourist Boat. 11.30am from the Castillo de la Concepción. 14€ (reduced rate 12€/members of Club Cartagena Puerto de Culturas 7€).

Romans for the World: Destination Carthago Nova – offers a dramatized route where we will travel the most important sites telling how different character’s lives were in Carthago Nova. 11.30am from the Museo del Teatro Romano. 4€/members of Club Cartagena Port of Cultures 7€.

The centres of Cartagena Port of Cultures will also offer experiences related to the figure of Isabel La Católica and virtual visits to the Roman Theatre of Cartagena.
