Volunteer Groups

We are slowly building a great team of volunteers to help at The Sanctuary. There is a rota system in place so that during the evenings there is help for Juan and Yolanda. The team is already active, as several ladies with experience with horses have already made a big difference by getting ‘stuck in’. Help is needed with mucking out the horses and donkeys, which is heavy, but rewarding work. These ladies are also helping with feeding, applying fly spray, grooming and generally helping to ‘handle’ the animals. We would still welcome more volunteers please; maybe a couple of strong men who are comfortable around equines are out there somewhere! If so, please get in touch. Yolanda speaks good English and will be delighted to take your call.

The more volunteers we get, the more equipment we need. Perhaps there are some retired builders out there with a shed full of redundant tools?

We are desperately short of the following items:

Strong and sturdy wheelbarrows, pitch forks, shavings forks, rakes, lunge lines, lunge whips, head-collars, brushes, curry combs, fly masks etc. We will be launching an appeal for items on social media over the coming weeks. Most of these items are available in Decathlon or local builders’ merchants.

Veterinary Supplies

We have many other animals such as dogs and cats in our care. We need wormers, flea and tick treatments, medicated shampoo etc. If you are popping into the vets, please consider putting an extra item in for us. We would be most grateful. The Clinica Veterinaria (Paco) on Camposol A has a list of the items we need. Please just ask and take any items to our new collection point inside Luz Del Sol Estate Agents on Camposol A.

Piensos Fuentes, in Mazarrón Town (next to Navarro Stationery) sells the animal feed we use. If you would like to donate some food we would be very grateful; horse feed, corn for the chickens and pig food.

We will be circulating collection tins for cash donations. Two have already been put in The Salon and Luz Del Sol on Camposol A. For other items we will arrange collection. Please just send us a message to the contact number above.

Fund Raising

We have plans to build a fund-raising team. The more helpers we have, the less work each of us has to do and it can be fun! If you are interested in helping us, please watch this space for further updates. We would love to hear from you with ideas of how to raise much-needed money for the charity.

Future Plans

We are keen to build our own brick-built kennels and cattery on the existing land at The Sanctuary. If there are any builders out there willing to assist with either labour or materials, we would be delighted to hear from you. We know that many local businesses already support the animal charities in the area and we are very grateful.

We welcome visitors but due to COVID, it must currently be by appointment only. Please contact us on the number above. We look forward to seeing you!
