Ready, steady…no!
This time last year we were all encouraged to look to the future with 2020 vision; an optimism that this new decade would bring great things. However, just look what happened and we ended up with something more like ‘Ready, steady…no!’
Time to re-boot and at this time of year, it has become traditional to set ourselves some New Year’s Resolutions.
For some of us that is a bit of fun and we know that they won’t last too long, however for others these can be life changing decisions.
So, what of 2021 and all of its attendant uncertainties?
Well, how about grabbing hold of the most repeated commandment in the Bible?
And, what might that be?
Got it? Well, if not, here it is.
“Do not be afraid”.
The world is full of people who are afraid of COVID-19, afraid of death, afraid of life, afraid of the past, afraid of the present, afraid of the future, afraid of other people, afraid of relationships, afraid of failure, afraid of themselves, afraid of God.
The disciples of the New Testament back in the day were afraid too!
When they asked Jesus about the future, He told them the same thing – “Do not be afraid but… be careful to stick close to me.”
For sure there will be wars.
For sure there will be disasters.
For sure there will be those who say they know how to fix it!
But He consistently says, “Do not be afraid.”
You have no need to be, Jesus said, “I am on your side, believe in me, because I believe in you!”
The Bible tells us this,
If God is for us, who can be against us?
As we leave 2020 behind and venture into this New Year, may I encourage you to ponder these thoughts?
