Do you believe that God is good, even when life isn’t?
That’s a tough call, especially if you’re not a Christian.

I came across a really uplifting story recently and thought I’d like to share it. The story is about a sweet, little old lady; let’s call her Rose.
Rose had been a widow for many years. She was very poor and had become housebound because of her painful ailments brought on by old age, but as a Christian, Rose had a strong faith and a close, personal relationship with her Heavenly Father. Over the years she had learned to appreciate every good thing that He had done in her life and took great comfort from the love He showed her. Her pastor occasionally visited her at home. Because of her crippling pain, it took her a long time to get to the door and let him in, so he would telephone and tell her that he was on his way. Rose would then begin the slow, painful journey to the door, arriving just in time to open it for him.

Without fail she would always greet him with, “Good afternoon pastor. God is good.”

Rose’s example made me think of how it is often those with the most difficulties and trials in their lives who speak most often about God’s goodness. They focus on His goodness and His grace rather than on their troubles and, in doing so have their spirits raised.

Her story is a real challenge for us all.
God is good – even when life isn’t.
