Revelation Warning – Hot, Cold or Luke warm??

We at Puerto Lumbreras Church Fellowship have watched a series on the book of Revelation in the Bible covering the first three chapters on the churches in Asia Minor, Turkey. A warning; a challenge goes out to all church goers from Jesus’ words to Laodicea in Revelation chapter 3 verses 15-17. Laodicea lies between Hieropolis with hot spas and Colossae with refreshing cold water. Laodicea was an extremely rich city coming from marketing the raven black wool of the sheep turned into expensive cloth and garments, a successful medical school and business manufacturing a curing eye salve. It’s also believed to have had the first banking system set up through Cicero a Roman statesman.

One downside was its lukewarm undrinkable water which tasted of lime and lead; something you would spit out if tried. Jesus referred to the church state by saying “I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were one or the other. Because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

These words challenged me, but are a warning and challenge to all who go to church, whether for a wedding, funeral, christening, Sunday to worship or out of habit, or as maybe now doing church through electronic or other means.

What does Jesus see in your life as you sit in a church environment? Are you ‘HOT’ towards Jesus, worshipping, loving and serving Him, or ‘COLD’ totally rejecting Him, or ‘LUKEWARM’, totally indifferent to Him and who He is?

Three things Jesus offers the church at Laodicea:
Firstly “I will counsel you to become rich.” – Riches, not as the world sees riches, but rich in a right relationship with Jesus through his death on the cross for our sins, offering to us forgiveness and cleansing to all who accept Him as their Lord and Saviour.
The second is salve for your eyes to see that Jesus is the only way; truth and eternal life-giver to those who put their faith and trust in Him.
Thirdly, white robes of righteousness to wear, showing us to be right with God through His Son Jesus’ death and resurrection.
All these riches of Jesus are still on offer to all by His grace and love for us.

God bless you.
