A Star From The East

There have been many magnificent sights of the aurora lights reaching at times down south of England, Australia and up in Scotland; an amazing sight I am told.  The birth signs are based on planets in the sky and astrologists are forever looking to find new planets, solar systems, meteorites to meteoroids, etc.  Does Mars have life on it??

Jesus was questioned by two religious groups in Matthew 16 verses 1, asking for a sign from Heaven, to test him. Jesus replied “When evening comes, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red and in the morning, today, it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

We can all look to the sky, especially at night and see its magnificence and be in awe of the God who created it, but none of us can recreate that which God has given to us through His love, grace, mercy and compassion.

In Matthew 2 verses 1-12 we read of the Magi, probably astrologers, following a star from the East, possibly Persia or Southern Arabia as both are east of Jerusalem in Israel.  They would have travelled for some months before reaching their believed destination, naturally going to the palace of King Herod, thinking that the ‘new king’ would be born there.  They asked where is He who has been born King of the Jews.  Herod, disturbed by the news, questioned his advisers. They told him that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem. Herod asked the Magi to let him know when they had found the baby so that he could go and worship him. They left, following the star again, found the baby in a house and worshipped Him giving gifts of gold (for a king), incense (for a priest) and myrrh (usually mixed with wine as pain relief and given to Jesus at his crucifixion which He refused).  The Magi were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, so went home another way.  This was Jesus’ first coming, a Heavenly Star.

Jesus’ first coming was to bring HOPE to this hopeless, restless, warring world. John 3 verse 16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  The greatest gift anyone of us could receive this Christmas; CHRIST – MAS (more in Spanish)

Jesus’ first coming was prophesied in Isaiah 9 verses 1-7, 700 years before it happened. Jesus’ second return spoken of in Matthew 24 verses 30 onwards; “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.”   The 1st coming only the Magi saw His star. The 2nd coming the whole world all at once will see Jesus coming to earth.  Verse 31 says “He (Jesus) will send His angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

Verse 42 gives a warning “Therefore keep watch because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

Are you prepared for Jesus’ return?  Are you one of the elect to be gathered by the angels?  You could be.

Acts 2 verses 36b-39; God has made this Jesus who you crucified both Lord and Christ.”  When the people heard this they were cut to the heart and said “What shall we do?” Peter replied “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off.”  With many other words he warned them and pleaded with them.
