I am sorry but the Canadians are spoilt! Perhaps this is a random assertion, but wait! Carol and I have watched enough ‘Property Brothers’ on the TV to know that any early 30’s couple with two children of under 8 years old cannot possibly squeeze into a house with less than four bedrooms, one bathroom per bedroom, double garage, separate games room, pool, an acre of ground entirely fenced in and within easy walking distance from the preferred school – all of this for a large six figure sum of Canadian Dollars. It is always a mystery to me where all this money comes from when, for the jobs people do, they could not have earned it. Well-off relatives perhaps?  One of my Scottish friends who emigrated to Canada was astonished by the number of people who bought relatively ‘new’ houses and simply knocked them down and built another one in its place – not a big job it seems as they are made of Papier Mache by all accounts, but none-the-less very wasteful in his eyes and mine.

I only bring this up because I was thinking about how comfortable we are and most of us could live without an acre and a pool and a bathroom each. How much would we give-up to help others? Do you begrudge the Pound or Euro for the beggar at the Supermarket on your way home to your central heating? You might expect the Bible has something to say about this, so here it is; “If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? James 2 v 16.
