Language Please

Albert Einstein said “Light travels faster than sound which is why some people look bright before they speak”.

As a child of around 4 years old I had my own language and was difficult to understand. Some say nothing has changed and accepting that this is partly true I do make an effort to speak clearly, not always successfully. Anyhow, after a number of elocution lessons I was allegedly better placed to communicate with the world. I don’t remember much about these lessons but I do remember being told off for breaking gun-caps with my finger nail and creating pops and smoky smells. I struggle with languages, even English which is unfortunate as it appears to be a basic requirement these days. Communication is so important and ironically I find myself being quite critical of poor skills in this regard. The Church also has its problems with language and communication. Often stuck in the past the knee-jerk reaction is to make everything trendy or up-to-date and in the process sacrifice some of the great teaching and writings from the past. To argue that contemporary songs deflate the Spirit in a fellowship is nonsense as at one time the old songs were the contemporary ones? Also the King James Bible is great but to communicate without Shakespeare we need to offer alternatives. As Christians we need to remember who it is that softens hearts and opens eyes to the truth. It is not our cleverness or dogma. On the other hand it is our language and the ways we communicate which play a part in God’s plan for individuals. ”  But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.” Colossians 3 v 8. Just saying…..language.
