John Lennon wrote in one of his songs that “Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans”. This view could lead us to feel depressed if our life is full of regrets or unattained dreams or ambitions. One of the first things to do when your computer freezes over and nothing seems to be working is to press the ‘refresh’ button to reload the page and take a new look at the information and data displayed. It is remarkable how often this works, as a computer needs to realign its data and put things in order to make it work properly.
How handy it would be to have a ‘refresh’ button on our lives. As we start a New Year, what do we need to ‘refresh’ in our lives to make the most of this experience of life?
Perhaps it is our use of time?
Do we need a new hobby or interest?
Is it time to travel and see other parts of the world?
Maybe we need to spend more time with our family or do activities which will broaden our friendships?
I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions, but this is still an opportunity to plan ahead a bit rather than let life just happen ‘a-la’ Mr Lennon and others. As we all get older, we have it seems less time in all sorts of ways. As a Christian I believe this life is just the start, but I also believe we should make the most of it and I think Jesus agrees as he says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10 v 10
Press the ‘refresh’ button and take a new look at life, preferably an abundant life?
