A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing – meaning someone who hides evil intentions whilst pretending to be kind.
The oldest explanation of this statement was a reference in English is in John Wycliffe’s bible (1382). This phrase comes from Jesus’ warning in Matthew chapter 7 verse 15:
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” – although it is used today about anyone who is deceptive.
Jesus was warning His followers about false teaching, and those who would lead ‘His’ flock astray. There are many today who claim to believe in Jesus, or God, yet their beliefs and behaviour do not match up to what Jesus taught.
Do not be led astray by cults, sects, or even churches that deny that Jesus is God. Jesus is the genuine article. Anyone who teaches you things that contradict Jesus are not to be trusted, however nice and kind they maybe.
Jesus says “I tell you the truth” 22 times in the bible, so, beware of Wolves In Sheep’s Clothing.
