The dreary winter months are behind us but instead of looking forward to a ‘normal’ spring, with COVID just being a bad memory from the past, we are now facing our tomorrows with fear and trepidation in view of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and we find ourselves heavily involved in seeking how best we can contribute to ease the terror, pain and anguish of the Ukrainian people.

The Council, under the banner of ‘MAZARRON WITH UKRAINE’ has put in place the following measures:

* A 24hr telephone number where information, orientation and advice are offered to Spanish speaking callers. The number is: 681 270 402

* A dedicated email address where information can be obtained on issues relating to Ukraine. Enquiries can be sent, in Spanish, to: mazarronconucrania@gmail.com

with regards to collections for basic necessities, donations, family members in Ukraine, availability to host Ukrainian families and/or children.

* Three official collection points, which are:

Puerto de Mazarron, Plaza de Abastos – open 7 days a week, 10am-2pm, and 5pm-8pm.

Mazarrón town, Cresta del Gallo – open 7 days a week, 10am-2pm, and 5pm-8pm

Camposol Social Centre, C/Jara Sector B – open Monday-to-Friday 10am-2pm

*Bank account numbers for monetary donations to:

CRUZ ROJA: ES44 0049 0001 5321 1002 2225

CÁRITAS:  ES86 0049 6660 7629 1614 2967

* Collection boxes available for businesses who require them. Please send an email to your Councillor at: silvanaeb@mazarron.es

* A list of items required at any specific time will be available from the Town Hall website: www.mazarron.es and it will be updated on a weekly basis.

Further information regarding items collected:

A Council vehicle will collect on a regular basis from the Social Centre in Camposol and transport the donations to a central point in Mazarrón.  All donations received by the municipality will be transported to the receiving warehouse/s in Molina de Segura. From there, dedicated lorries will travel to Ukraine where they will be received by the INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS and will be distributed according to priorities and needs.

Additional information for families wishing to act as HOSTS:

This service will be co-ordinated by the Regional Authority. Families should, in the first instance, send an email, in Spanish, to: mazarronconucrania@gmail.com expressing their availability and asking to register. Here is a sample of what to write:
