No crystal ball and not much bowls!!
By this time I had hoped that I would be giving a review on MBC’s bowling for the coming season – but sadly not. It is with regret that we have had to tell the controlling body (LLB) that Mazarrón Bowls Club cannot qualify to field a squad in the LLB League this coming winter due to the COVID-19 restrictions that are imposed on our club – but we will be back stronger than ever when circumstances permit.

Stay safe
The majority of clubs in the LLB Southern League are subject to corona virus conditions set by the Valencia Sports Authority whereas Country Bowls BC, La Manga BC and Mazarrón BC come under different conditions set by the Murcia Sports Authority. At the present time MBC can have only twenty players on the green at any one time, which means we cannot host home games in this winter’ LLB Southern League as the format adopted by the LLB calls for thirty players to play on the rink at any one time and which is allowed in Valencia rules. This situation is very unfortunate, especially as we fought hard last season to stay in Division A. Our club is not expecting any good news from the LLB meeting which is being held at the end of August after my report has been sent to the editor of Costa Calida Chronicle. As Bob Donnelly, the President of the LLB, wrote “None of us has a crystal ball!”

the foliage is flourishing!
Other News
Horadada Bowling Club south of Torrevieja has closed due to the carpet becoming unplayable with many of the members having now joined other clubs in their area. This could mean that there are at least two clubs not being able to enter the LLB Southern League this autumn.
At the time of writing the Linea Directa Valencian Championships 2020 are still scheduled to take place from 16th-29th September, but the venue is still as yet to be confirmed.

better days!
We will welcome new members to come and join us at our home rink at Hacienda del Alamo. We roll up on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9.30am during the summer months. At present we have to abide by the latest COVID-19 rules which require several steps to be taken before going out onto the rink, but so far everything has worked well and members have been enjoying the banter whilst exercising and then distance socializing over a drink afterwards.
Please see the MBC website www.mazarronbowlsclub.com for up to date information or give our Secretary Harry a ring on 619 349 671
We look forward to seeing you and have bowls available to use. Stay safe.
