Hoping We’ve Waited Long Enough To Get Back Bowling

Bowling Resumed Again On 9th June

MBC committee has worked hard over the last three months preparing for the return to bowling. A couple of ‘social distancing’ meetings were held, along with many emails going back and forth between members of our committee and to the committee of LLB the ruling body for our region. Special awareness notices had to be thought through and printed along with purchasing sanitizer for our members.  On Thursday 4th June a few members spent a hot day preparing the rinks, disinfecting equipment, displaying notices of new rules now imposed for safe bowling by ‘World Bowls’, all in readiness for Tuesday 9th June. It all paid off, with sixteen bowlers very glad to be back bowling, albeit under a new ‘format’ for the game, but which worked very well.  Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was good to get together afterwards, even though ‘social distancing’ had to be observed.

MABS Needs You, Before You May Need Them

In May, Mazarrón Bowls Club donated 450€ to MABS, the charity we support. Sadly the MABS Trophy Competition organised for March had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus lockdown and which would have raised more money. Fund raiser Bev Thompson informed me that MABS was founded in 1999 and is one of the longest established charities in Spain, gaining Foundation status in 2017.  MABS Mazarrón started in 2006 and currently supports 115 people, providing them with practical help and support as well as home nursing care, equipment loan and counselling.  In 2018 the MABS Respite Home opened, providing 24 hour care for those who require rehabilitation, additional help and end of life care.

Bev says “We do not get any financial help from the Regional or Local Government, so MABS totally rely on donations, fund raising events and income from our shop.”

Please support MABS.  We can all donate, whether money or items for the MABS shop in Totana.  It is very easy to leave your donated items in the plastic box in the garden which you can see from the gate of the Respite Home, Avda de los Covachos 278, Camposol B. It is situated on the right hand side of the main dual carriageway going away from Consum towards Camposol C and D, or take your items to the shop in Totana which is now trading again after lockdown.

Please telephone 966 490 780 if you have furniture or big items to donate.

We are very fortunate to have MABS in our community as sadly cancer touches all of our lives whether for ourselves or for family and friends. Your support will be much appreciated.
