A Happy, Healthy and Enjoyable Bowling Year in 2020
Mazarrón Bowls Club members would like to wish all Costa Cálida Chronicle readers a Happy and Healthy New Year.
MBC Winter Triples League

The last Winter Triples League game to be played before Christmas was abandoned due to rain and has now been added to the end of the schedule in February. Team ‘Bahamas’ (Barbara Benton, Mandy Wright, Harry Male) is at the top of the league with nine points, but closely followed by ‘Tottey Crisps’, ‘Brexiteers’ and ‘ABH’ all with seven points each.
MBC Committee

At the moment we have a Committee of nine officers which include a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Captain, Competition Secretary, Social Secretary, Promotion and Advertising Officer and a Maintenance Officer. All work hard to run the club, making sure all members are informed on league fixtures with other clubs, organized events, liaison with Hacienda Sports Centre and making sure the equipment and rinks are in good order and fully serviceable. Much of the work goes unnoticed, especially all the paperwork that goes with selecting and organizing teams for inter-club and domestic competitions and in managing the Club’s finances. The members appreciate all the work and time the Committee put in for the smooth running of our club, but the Committee in turn wish to thank member Gill Appleton for all the support work that she does quietly behind the scenes – collecting entry fees, printing tables of teams, making posters etc. As a ‘thank you’, Gill has been presented with a bouquet of flowers from the Committee on behalf of members.
Club Championships 2020
The first rounds of the Club Championships have now been completed and the quarter finals are in progress for completion by 19th January, just a week after our domestic John Smith Trophy Competition on 12th January. Over the Festive Christmas and New Year holiday there has been a pause to most bowling activity while the members have been preoccupied with families at home here and overseas in the UK and elsewhere to celebrate the season.
LLB Southern League

A fantastic win against San Luis Tigers at home in mid-December was just what MBC needed to end the first half of the season. Winning 14 – 0, MBC Miners are no longer at the bottom of the table, but climbing towards mid-table and only two points behind Greenlands Oaks. Onwards and upwards!
Finally!
We would like to encourage new members to come and join us at our home rink at Hacienda del Alamo on Thursdays throughout January at our casual roll up – 10am for 10.30am. Whites do not have to be worn, although flat smooth soled shoes need to be used. We have bowls to practice and members are on hand to guide you through a morning of bowling. Colin Appleton on 605 492 937 would be happy to talk to you about Mazarrón Bowls Club and to answer any queries.
