A Month into a New Decade!
MBC Christmas Dinner
MBC members were invited to join Camposol Golf Association for their annual Christmas dinner and dance which was held at the Playa Grande Hotel, Puerto de Mazarrón. We had a very enjoyable evening. The wine flowed freely and the excellent entertainment led by Carolynn May helped the evening go with a swing and kept the dance floor busy. That a table of twelve MBC members won several of the raffle prizes was just the icing on the Christmas cake!! A great night out.
Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
Some MBC members who did not go away or join family over the Christmas period got together on Boxing Day for a fun game and buffet which was brought by the players and included Colin Appleton’s lovely yearly treat of chilli con carne and rice. The morning started off with a ‘Spider Drive’ which was won by Harold Morris with a bottle of Cava as his prize. The fun game was in the format of Crown Green Bowls; teams bowled to their jack delivered to a different area of the green after each end. That one or two bowls strayed into another team’s head was inevitable, but added to the fun! Prizes of chocolate, cider and biscuits were up for grabs.
On New Year’s Day the ‘Spider Drive’ was won by Mike Chambers who chose a cake as his prize. Our fun game of the day was ‘Elimination’ – four teams played up and down the rink. On each end, the bowl furthest from the jack was removed thus eventually leaving one bowl which was the winner. The winner in each of the four teams was rewarded with a prize. Thank you to the members who donated the prizes. Everyone enjoyed the food and drink brought by the players. A great time was had by all in the sunshine.
MBC Winter Triples League
Our Winter Triples League resumed on 7th January; the fourth game of the series. Team ‘Bahamas’ (Barbara Benton, Mandy Wright, Harry Male) have held onto the top place for the fourth time. ‘ABH’ have moved up to second place and ‘Tottey Crisps’ in third place. Next month’s report will announce the winning team.
Club Championships 2020
These are now in the semi-final stage, so the fight is on to get to the final in March. Last year’s Ladies’ Pairs and Mixed Pairs Champions have been knocked out. Jim Coughlan and Helen Chambers are still fighting to hold on to their Club Singles titles.
LLB Southern League News
The first game of the second half was played on 17th January. Results next month. MBC were on a high over the Christmas period having jumped up the league table with a great home win 14-0 against San Luis Tigers on the last game before the break. With five away and four home games still to be played, our squad will do all they can to better our position in the league.
We would like to welcome new members, so come along and meet us on our ‘roll ups’ on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am for 10.30am. We have club bowls for you to use, so turn up in flat soled shoes and there will be someone to look after you for the morning.
