Too Hot For Some!
MBC Snowbirds

Times may be quieter on the rinks at Hacienda Del Alamo, but for MBC Snowbirds it isn’t! A snowbird is a person who spends the summers in their home country, but goes south in winter to enjoy winter sunshine. MBC has a few members who are from England and who play for their home clubs.
Frank Quinton is a member of Atherly BC, Southampton and has been busy bowling and has entered some disciplines in the Southampton Open. Frank and some Atherly members have recently been to Potters in Norfolk, a bowler’s delight, for a week and enjoyed taking part in a few matches.
Clive Hoyal is a member of New Milton BC and is happy to be back playing on grass again! Clive’s team missed qualifying for the Hampshire West County Triples and fours by one game, but the club is doing well in Division 2 of the Bournemouth & District league. They are hoping for promotion next season and holding on in the New Forest First Division.

Brian, Dawn and Andrew Bunce are down in Cornwall bowling at Wadebridge BC. The 88 members have three men’s and a ladies’ league team. Andrew is playing in the Men’s B league and they are half way through the season. Their club hardly plays in whites, but instead play in club colours and greys – easier on the washing!
Mike and Helen do not bowl through the summer, but enjoy gardening and fishing on the Isle of Wight!
The John Smith Trophy was cancelled due to too many members being unable to take part, so it was decided to play it later in the year when it will be cooler. Australian pairs is quite a long game and involves more walking up and down the rink than usual.
Winter Season
It’s that time of year when the committee need to make plans for the coming season’s calendar. MBC signing-up sheets are in the cabin for members to add their names to play in the 2020 MBC Club Championships. There are nine disciplines to be played in the form of a knockout tournament with the finals weekend in March.

MBC did well in the winter LLB leagues last season. In the Southern League Division B, MBC won, beating twelve teams and qualify to be promoted to Division A of the top most league in Spain. In the Southern Alicante Discovery Division, we held on to stay around the middle of the league.
The Costa Cálida Chronicle’s 20th Anniversary Trade Exhibition is on 9th November at The Sheraton Hotel, Hacienda Del Alamo. MBC will have a stand at this show with members on hand to introduce and encourage show goers to try lawn bowls on HDA’s rink.
In the meantime MBC look forward to welcoming new members. Come along to a roll-up on a Tuesday or Thursday 6pm for 6.30pm at Hacienda Del Alamo.
