Well, did you manage to get through the summer?! That heat gets us every year, but that’s it now; we can start to cool off. All the pets will be relieved as well. We say they’re used to it, but watching them, they look as fed up as us humans!

We’re still struggling with a chronic staff shortage and numbers are down to three daily staff which has resulted in our shortening the shop hours yet again. It would be such a shame to have to close this helpful little charity, so if you could spare a couple of hours, please just come in and start unpacking bags of donations!

One of your pets that Mamas helped last month was a cat called Simba with a shocking leg injury. He had been knocked over and his heartbroken owners thought he had had it. Paco, our vet, said he could be operated on, but his leg was so shattered it would be costly. His owners gave us the details, ie xrays, operation and hospital recovery costs. It was expensive and we have been struggling due to such short shop hours to raise the cash, but we managed to get together a fair amount to save Simba, plus all the other applications we received last month.

Simba had his leg pinned and is now a cheeky boy albeit with a slight limp. The photos show him in happier times before the accident and his xray.

As always we are grateful for your donations, as goodness knows what the owners of Simba would have done with him had we not been able to help financially. This is why we need whatever you don’t want; small working electricals, bedding, clean clothes, bric-a-brac, books and of course furniture.

If you haven’t visited our shop before, we are in Puerto de Mazarrón, past Lidl and up to Consum. Turn left here and Calle San Juan is the third on the left. We are just there on the left hand side.

Stay aware of the still ongoing COVID situation and keep safe.
