To everyone that has helped raise funds for MABS Cancer Support Fundación in whatever capacity – donations, volunteering and fundraising (more on that in a mo….)
In January we were able to assist with:
- 68 Appointments
- 68 Translations
- 13 Drives to hospital
- 5 loans of equipment
The bike ride!
On January 21st three of the riders set off at 10.30am heading for Madrid in Betty Blue mini bus driven by Ingrid Mitchell and accompanied by her glamorous assistant Nicole Cottrell who in her own words was there to keep Ingrid awake! After struggling a bit on some of the hills, they dropped the lads off and ‘took it easy’ on the way back arriving at 12.30am.
The other two riders and the support driver left a bit later with the bikes safely loaded onto the van, kindly provided by Citroën Mazarrón.
Next morning, seen off by Vice Consul Sarah-Jane Morris from the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the famous five: Gary McMurray, Neil Sanders, Lee McGovan, Steve Malcolm and Paul Thomas – supported by Andy Leatherbarrow in the van, commenced their epic ride.
The ride, – very hilly (I did it in a Fiat Panda a few years ago and that was bad enough!) lots of aches and pains, busted chain and a couple of punctures, saw them arrive back at Camposol welcomed by their community and met by the Mayor Gaspar Miras and other council members.
The charity ride was supported by local businesses – Luz del Sol, Ibex Insurance, Tel’s bar, Top2Toe Hair Salon, Compusurf and CM Constructions with a support vehicle provided by Citroen Mazarrón. So, a big thank you to all of them.
The guys raised in excess of 4,000€ an amazing amount that will go a huge way to funding the support that we give.
A big thank you also to The Diner and Barwho raised 145.00€ on their Quiz Night for us.
