Hot steamy weather, holidays and visitors meant a depleted turnout for our visit to La Torre resort, which, as with all GNK resorts, the course was immaculate. A welcome supply of cold drinks courtesy of the society were delivered to all areas of the course and were well received.
Format for the day was a new one for the society being an Irish Greensome, when both players tee off, then switch tee shots for their second shots. They then select the best ball and play alternate shots until the ball is holed out.
Dave Hudson who swept the board on all the par 3’s gets his reward .
This was a bit confusing for one player who recorded two no-scores despite being told beforehand it was a medal and not a stableford! A word with his playing partners put it right.
Our winning team was Dave Hudson and partner Colin Meridith with a net score of 74.
Shot of the day came from Dave who drove the par 4 6th hole leaving Colin to sink a tricky 10 footer for an Eagle 2. Colin was prone to leaving his partner with lots of bunker shots, but as he said, “After today you’ll be a better player out of sand!”
It was nice to have Maureen back out on the course after an 18 month break, giving her partner some stick for not taking her advice. In a lovely Welsh accent she kept saying “Why won’t he listen to me?”, only to be told, “It’s a man thing!”
Our next competition is on Monday 21st September at Altorreal. Cost of the day is asociety subsidised €45 which includes greenfee, shared buggy, plus coffee and a bacon baguette on arrival.
Our website is open for entries or email firstname.lastname@example.org
New members and guests are always welcome. The fee for guests is €52 as there is no guest subsidy.
As always we thank our main sponsors Decklid Autos.
