For our October outing, we went on a bus trip. Monday, 4th October saw 26 players of Los Amigos venturing south on our first Society visit to Mojacar Marina Playa golf course. The weather was good in so much, it was a sunny day and a pleasant temperature in which to play golf. Upon disembarking from the coach, the first stop was for a coffee in a nearby restaurant. (The restaurant facilities at the golf club being temporarily unavailable). Next job was to jump aboard a buggy of the petrol engine type. That took a few of us by surprise!
The fairways were in good condition and the greens were very fast. However, the bunkers left something to be desired. Fairways 1, 2 and 3 are fairly flat, but there is quite a climb to the 4th Tee. Golfers who are former mountaineers will be content with climbing the hill, but this is where the petrol engine buggy came into its own. There are two yellow Tees with the first one being for handicaps 1-9. For us lesser mortals, the second yellow Tee box, is further down the track and certainly more conducive to making a successful drive. Enjoy the view.
The format for the day was a Singles Stableford Competition. It must be said the overall final results were rather surprising, with several 28 handicappers achieving rather creditable scores. Conversely, some low handicappers did not fare so well however.
1st with 34 points – Sandy Bayne.
2nd with 33 points – Dave Baxter.
3rd with 32 points – Brian Tape.
