The October venue for Los Amigos Golf Society was the excellent golf resort of El Valle. Naturally, in October, the day started off relatively cool, but it soon warmed up to 34 degrees and in excess of 85% humidity. The total absence of wind made it seem even hotter, but we all managed to get round without incident.
There were two bunkers declared ‘ground under repair’, but that did not detract from the excellent condition of the fairways and greens. The format for the day was a Team Game of 4, 3, and 2 whereby each team of four counted four scores on each of the first six holes, the three best scores on each of the middle six and the two best scores on each of the final six holes. Additionally, we had ‘Nearest the Pin’ competitions on all par threes.
The prizes were presented by our Captain, Les Jales and the winners were:
1st: with 102 points – Mick Drummond, Phil Linton, Ray Stroud and Ron Durrell (guest).
2nd: with 97 points – Gerry McRobert, Bill Collins, Brian Tape and Gary Greenfield (guest).
3rd: with 91 points – Tony Pickworth, Eddy Spong, Marshall Shields and Les Jales.
Nearest the Pin Winners:
Hole 6 – No Winner.
Hole 9. – At 5.00 metres – Gerry McRobert.
Hole 12 – At 6.66 metres – Terry Pegg.
Hole 15 – At 3.55 metres – Keith Collins.
