20 members and guests made their way to Altorreal Golf, just north of Murcia City on Monday 9th January for the first away day of the year for Los Amigos Golf Society under the 2023 Captain Gary Greenfield and his Vice Captain John Girvan.
The weather was extremely mild for this time of year and the players found the course in tip top condition, with the greens having just been dressed with sand for the winter. The greens were not too fast, but true, although many of the golfers found them hard to read. As the round progressed the green keepers were cutting new holes on some greens which made it a tad more interesting.
On the 10th hole one of our Scottish members had a little heart flutter when he saw his ball almost in for a hole in one, but fortunately he didn’t have to treat everyone in the bar afterwards!
The format for the day was Singles Stableford and although the scoring for some was quite low, the winner on the day was Sandy Bayne with 32 points. Second after a long count back was Dave Wainwright with 27 points, with Marshall Shields third also on 27 points.
