Mazarron’s up and down season continued in late January and early February. Having been seven points away from safety, two successive victories against FC Cartagena UCAM (away) and Racing Murcia “B” at home saw them close the gap to three points and move off the bottom of the table ahead of UD Los Garres.
Unfortunately, the next game was away to high flying Racing Murcia who had lost only twice this season. Despite giving a good performance Murcia ran out 3-0 winners and Mazarron were now five points from safety. The arrival of four new players had increased hopes of survival with Prince Kevin Wolosso showing immense early promise and being instrumental in the win at Cartagena. That game also signalled a return to form of Chiky Ardil who welcomed the support from Kevin Wolosso and another new signing Juan Arcas up front.

The squad was again weakened by suspensions at a crucial stage of the season. As well as Taborda, who served a four-match ban for striking an opponent, another new signing Mathias was sent off in his first game and also received a four-match ban for a similar offence. With other players receiving one match suspensions for accumulating five yellow cards the strength of the squad was tested to the full.
Some good news was that support continued to hold up and it was great to see the resurgence of the supporters’ coach to the away games at Cartagena and Racing Murcia.

With results picking up we have again started to take a supporters’ coach to most away games. If we do not have sufficient numbers to justify the coach or if the game is played fairly locally we travel in convoy leaving from the lower car park opposite Consum supermarket. Coach prices are €10 for Los Amigos members and €12 for non-members and we ask everyone to email janperks1@gmail.com to indicate that they wish to travel on the coach well in advance of each away game. Payment can be made at our Thursday meetings.

The pre-match luncheon before the home game against Racing Murcia B on Sunday 6th February was really well attended with almost 50 members and friends enjoying a great meal with drinks included at the Bar Velasco in Mazarron town. Coach transport was provided to the restaurant from various points around Camposol and back from the football ground after the game for those who required it. Many thanks to Bernado and his staff for looking after us so well.
Arrangements are being finalised for a pre-match meal and coach to Mazarron’s away game at Caravaca on 17th April. With Caravaca also in the relegation struggle it will be a very important game.
