Mazarrón FC’s start to the 2020/21 season was delayed for two weeks after one of their players tested positive for COVID-19 and the opening games away to Cartagena FC UCAM and at home to FC Cartagena had to be postponed. The season eventually began on 1st November with an away trip to newly promoted FC La Union Atletico and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. The first home game against last year’s third placed team Mar Menor CF also ended goalless. This meant that Mazarrón’s run of ‘clean sheets’ was stretched to six games including the four pre-season friendlies.

New signings Simpara and Juande were particularly impressive in central defence, with veteran goalkeeper Emilio also providing excellent cover, but the problem, as had been evidenced in pre-season, was the lack of goals scored. As mentioned last month, experienced striker Jose David Sanchez finally signed from Aguilas and made his debut in the game against Mar Menor. The draw against Mar Menor was achieved, despite the fact that Mazarrón finished the game with only nine men after striker Fede was sent off after 30 minutes after receiving a second yellow card. Ortuno then joined him for an early bath after 84 minutes after being handed his second yellow card by the same referee who sent off two Mazarrón players in the final game of last year’s regular season.
The resurgence of COVID-19 and the subsequent re-imposition of restrictions in Murcia meant that the games were played behind closed doors. Just before the scheduled first game of the season it had been announced that a limited number of spectators would be allowed at games, but this plan was postponed the day before the season was due to begin. It is hoped that when the situation has sufficiently improved, the plan to allow a limited number of spectators will be re-introduced. This will mean that those supporters who took advantage of the offer to buy season tickets would be given entrance priority.
Mazarrón’s home games are normally played on Sundays with varying kick off times. Forthcoming fixtures:
- 13th December – CD Minera – home
- 20th December – CAP Ciudad de Murcia – away
- 10th January – Huercal-Overa CF – home
Details of all games, dates and kick off times will be advertised in the local media, on www.mazarronfc.com or Facebook fb.me/mazarron2016. Mazarrón Hoy kindly streamed the first few games live on their Facebook page so that Mazarrón supporters were not deprived of the opportunity to get their regular ‘football fix’.
If you wish to support the Mazarrón FC in these difficult times, you can still purchase a season tickets. With no revenue coming through the turnstiles, the club is dependent on income from its sponsors to keep afloat and buying a season ticket will be a massive help. Although the early games at least will be played behind closed doors, the season tickets will be valid for 19 games, so if it is not possible to use some or all of the tickets, the remaining tickets will be valid for the 2021/22 season.
When fans are allowed to enter with limited capacity, preference will be given to season ticket holders. The cards will all be numbered consecutively, so if for example capacity is limited to 300, subscribers 1-300 will be allowed entry. Email pamada.1130@ yahoo.co.uk to book a season ticket, or go to www.mazarronfc.com. Tickets can be collected from Los Amigos or from the Estadio Municipal when they are ready. Subscribers will be notified as soon as the collection date is available.
Tickets €50 (ladies and those aged 16-23 €35). Season Ticket holders for the 2019/20 season can request a 10% discount on presentation of their 2019/20 ticket.

Los Amigos membership renewals (usually 1st August) have been deferred to 1st January 2021. If you wish to join before this date membership will expire 31st December. Membership is 20€ to include discounts on all Los Amigos activities for the member and a partner. Thursday weekly meetings at The Golf Club, Camposol have been suspended due to local restrictions, but will resume as soon as possible. Our AGM has been postponed until hopefully early in the New Year.

The Race Night at Alley Palais at the end of October was a huge success and raised 1,300€. Local singer Sharna Knight acted as compere for the racing and entertained us with her music during the evening. There were eight races including two auction races which proved extremely popular and good fun!! We enjoyed a most enjoyable supper provided by PJ’s. Thanks to Alix and all her staff for looking after us so well.
