After their 1-0 away over CD Lumbreras on 15th January, Mazarrón FC had a disastrous run of three games in which they failed to win a point. Firstly, they entertained lowly EF La Aljorra at home in a game which saw them without the services of two key players; central defender Lopez who was suspended and midfielder Andreo who was injured. MFC totally dominated the game, hitting the woodwork on numerous occasions and missing a number of fairly simple chances. What made things worse was the appalling tactics of the visiting team and a dreadful performance by the referee who was taken in by their display of falling to the ground after every tackle to break up the flow of the game. The visitors scored in a breakaway movement on the hour mark and thereafter their play-acting got even worse.

The following week was the big game when a six-pointer pitched second placed MFC away to league leaders Balsicas Atletico. Having beaten Balsicas 4-1 at the Estadio Municipal earlier in the season, MFC travelled to the game in a confident mood, backed by the largest away following of the season. Unfortunately, it was the home team who dominated the game with MFC restricted to a handful of half-chances. The winning goal for Balsicas came on 62 minutes and to make matters worse, leading scorer Chiky Ardil picked up his fifth yellow card of the season, resulting in a one match ban and Chera was sent off for what appeared to be an innocuous 50-50 challenge.

The defeat saw CD Algar move up to second place above MFC, but when Algar were held to a 1-1 draw away to Aguilas in a Saturday evening game, MFC had the chance to move back to second when they entertained local rivals Olímpico de Totana the following day. Without the suspended Chiky Ardil, MFC were light on attacking power and although they again had much of the possession, the visitors managed to score the winning goal in the 90th minute. The defeat saw MFC slip two points behind CD Algar with four games of the season remaining; two at home against bottom of the table Mar Menor and Algezares UD and two away against Atletico Santa Cruz and local rivals Bala Azul. Should MFC manage to regain second place at the end of the season, they will face a two-leg play-off against the team which finishes second in the other Preferente League Group, currently EDF Churra, to decide who gains promotion to the Tercera Division.

Voting continued for the Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC Player of the Season award at every game up to the penultimate home game against Mar Menor and the winner will be presented with his trophy before the final game of the season at home to Algezares UD on 5th March.
