Mazarron team at Pulpileno

Preparations for Mazarrón FC’s third season back in the Tercera Division continued with a very successful series of pre-season friendly games. Four games were played with two wins and two draws all against Tercera League opposition and Mazarrón did not concede any goals in the four games. New Manger, Sergio Sanchez, took the opportunity to see as many of his proposed squad in action before submitting the final list of registered players to the Murcia Federation just before the start of the season on Sunday 18th October.

The new squad is a mixture of players from last season’s successful team and some new additions and things looked very promising in the friendly games, with the defence particularly impressive with new central defenders Juende and Simpara in excellent form. Only two goals were scored in the 1-0 wins against FC Cartagena and Aguilas, but it was hoped that experienced striker Jose David Sanchez would be signed in time for the new season. The 31 year old has vast experience at this level and scored 30 goals in the last two seasons with his previous club Aguilas.

The first game of the season was away to Cartagena FC UCAM on 18th October, but this was after the deadline for submitting information to the Costa Calida Chronicle. However, the game was expected to be played behind closed doors in line with current guidelines from the Murcian Regional Government. Negotiations are ongoing with a view to allowing a limited number of spectators to games such as is currently being allowed in neighbouring Almeria.

A small convoy of Mazarrón supporters made the short journey down the AP7 motorway to watch the friendly against Atletico Pulpileno in Almeria on 3rd October and took the opportunity to watch Mazarrón in live action for the first time since March. Strict regulations were in place, with temperature checks on arrival at the ground, many sanitising stations in use and those seats used were clearly marked to comply with social distancing measures. There was a large security presence to ensure that correct procedures were adhered to and everything went very smoothly. It is hoped that similar measures will be allowed in Murcia in the near future as local teams cannot survive without revenue from spectators.

Mazarrón’s home games are normally played on Sundays with varying kick off times. Fixtures:
1st November – FC La Union Atletico – away
8th November – Mar Menor CF – home
15th November – Lorca FC – away
22nd November – Muleno CF – home
29th November – Racing Murcia – away

If and when the situation changes and spectators are allowed back into games, full details of all games, dates and kick off times will be advertised in the local media, on www.mazarronfc.com or on Facebook fb.me/mazarron2016

To help Mazarrón FC through these difficult times, many Los Amigos members have taken up the club’s season ticket offer even though spectators are not currently allowed into games. As it is possible that the early games at least will be played behind closed doors, the season tickets will be valid for 19 games, if it is not possible to use some or all of the tickets, the remaining tickets will be valid for the 2021/22 season.

When fans are allowed to enter with limited capacity, preference will be given to season ticket holders. The cards will all be numbered consecutively, so if for example capacity is limited to 300, subscribers 1-300 will be allowed entry.

If you wish to support the Mazarrón FC at this difficult time, you can email pamada.1130@yahoo.co.uk or go to www.mazarronfc.com to book a season ticket. When they are ready, subscribers will be notified and they will be available from Los Amigos or the Estadio Municipal. Prices are €50 (ladies and younger people aged 16-23 €35). Season Ticket holders for the 2019/20 season can request a 10% discount on presentation of their 2019/20 ticket. The first 100 subscribers will receive an official club scarf.

Los Amigos membership renewals (usually 1st August) have been deferred to 1st January 2021. If anybody, who is not a current member, wishes to join before this date their membership will expire 31st December 2021.

We have postponed our AGM until early in the New Year.
