If someone had said prior to the start of the 2022/23 season that Mazarrón FC would still be unbeaten after the first nine games, supporters would have been delighted. However, when this did in fact happen, there was still disappointment as six of the nine games were drawn with only three victories. Despite this, Mazarrón were in third place in the league and in the play-off positions with almost half the season gone. Attendances at home games were on the up and more Los Amigos members were taking advantage of the coach provided to away games. The standard of football was much improved of that seen in recent years. Mazarrón was the only unbeaten team in the league at this stage and, in Chiky Ardil, had the second highest scorer with seven goals.
Three of our players were included in the Spain Beach Soccer Squad for the inter-Continental Cup competition in Dubai in November. Chiky Ardil, his brother David and Jose Oliver took part in games against United Arab Emirates, Brazil and Saudi Arabia. Chiky won the 2022 World Best Goal of the Year Trophy at the World Beach Soccer Gala at the Westin Hotel in Dubai. His goal against Portugal in the Mondialito in Gran Canaria was voted the best and he was presented with the award by former Real Madrid and Spanish International player Michel Salgado. Chiky narrowly missed out on the World Best Player Award, although he was in the final three nominations. This went to Portuguese star Be Martins. Chiky was also named in the prestigious ‘Best 5’, the World Beach Soccer Team of the Year for 2022. Congratulations to Chiky for these well-deserved honours; something to make him, his family and all of Mazarrón very proud of.
After their steady start to the season Mazarrón welcomed league leaders Balsicas Atletico to the Estadio Municipal on 23rd October and gained a tremendous 4-1 win with goals from Chiky, Andreo, Harold and David Ardil. Next it was a trip to local rivals Olimpico de Totana looking for a first away win of the season. Despite taking an early lead through Andreo, Totana fought back to equalise with twenty minutes remaining. Next Mazarrón welcomed second placed Atletico Santa Cruz for another difficult game, but Mazarrón came out on top with a convincing 3-0 victory. Chico Rubio, Dany Caceido and Carlos Rivas were the scorers. Bala Azul were the next visitors to the Estadio Municipal for the local derby game in front of a large crowd. Mazarrón were in third place with Bala Azul next to the bottom at the start of the game, but, as so often happens, Mazarrón were unable to break down the visitors and the game ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Our supporters’ bar under the main stand has proved very popular before each game and at half-time, so why not call in for a drink, a packet of crisps and a chat before the game?
Los Amigos aim to take a supporters’ coach to each away game subject to demand. The coach leaves from the Camposol B lower car park at €10 for members and €12 for non-members. If we do not have sufficient numbers to justify the coach or if the game is played fairly locally we travel in car convoy. Please email email@example.com well in advance of each away game to confirm booking. Payment can be made at our Thursday meetings.
Los Amigos membership is €20 allowing members and a partner discount on coach travel to away games and to all Los Amigos social activities. Members only are allowed to attend the monthly business meetings. Membership forms are available at our weekly meetings or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Before the home game against CD Bala Azul, Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC President Dave Perks presented a cheque for €2,500 to Mazarrón FC Captain Chiky Ardil and President Diego Arango, This was the proceeds from the Gala Week events held by Los Amigos in March.
Unfortunately, we have decided that the Annual Gala Celebrations will not take place next year. Rising costs at the hotel for meals and rooms, together with air fares for visiting celebrities mean that it may no longer be financially viable. We are, however, looking at holding a smaller Dinner Dance at a local venue as well as a Race Night in the New Year. We will announce details as soon as we have them.
Los Amigos meetings are every Thursday, at Mariano’s Bar & Restaurant, Camposol A at 4pm. All are welcome except at the monthly Business Meeting on the last Thursday in each month which is open to members only.
On behalf of everyone at Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC may we take this opportunity of wishing everyone at Mazarrón FC and all supporters a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
