Forget Me Not the Caring for Carers charity based on Camposol is a free group that meets twice a week every Monday and Thursday morning 10.30am – 1.15pm. We meet at the Social Centre on Sector B and do a range of activities for Clients ranging from Dominoes, Craft making, Board Games, Chair Exercises and Bingo as well as a free lunch. You can drop your loved one off to join us at their own little club and we have trained nurses as well as volunteers to keep them safe.
In April we had Carolynn May come and sing for us and we had our own little disco at 11am in the morning which the clients and volunteers really enjoyed, I’ve never seen so many smiling faces. Thank you Carolynn and she said she will return in the Autumn, can’t wait. Music is a very powerful tonic for our Clients and we always sing songs when we are doing our chair exercises and even Clients who can hardly speak or remember their own name can sing along to old songs they sang in their youth, it’s amazing.
If there are any musicians out there who would like to come along and entertain our clients please get in touch and also any musician that could do a music workshop. We have tambourines and other musical instruments which our clients would love to use so someone who has a portable keyboard or guitar that you play we’d love to see you for an hour on a Monday or Thursday morning, just get in touch.
In May we had a fundraising quiz at the Diner and we raised 380€ which is a fabulous amount and will help us tremendously as it costs 1,000€ a month to run the charity. Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets and donated raffle prizes we really appreciate you thinking of us.
On 22nd May we held a fundraiser afternoon at Cat’s Bar, Camposol A in conjunction with Barrington which was very kind of them to do for us, so many thanks. We held a raffle and raised lots of money for our charity.
Sadly we lost 2 of our Clients during April – Peter Halliday and Michael Peterson who attended our club for several years and they are very much missed. RIP Peter and Michael.
If anyone would like to volunteer at Forget Me Not please ring one of the numbers or contact us on our Facebook page. Male and female volunteers are needed because the male clients love to play dominoes and have quite a little club going and male influence for them is really good as most of their carers are female. Female volunteers also play dominoes but do crafts and games and we all join in with chair exercise and bingo so a good time is had by us all. A really happy place to volunteer and you go home with a real glow that you`ve helped someone.
