Are you feeling trapped in the house caring for a loved one and need some support and a few hours a week for yourself? Do you feel there is nobody out there to help you because family are in the UK and you are on your own to cope with everything?  Are you worried that your loved one won’t be looked after as well as at home in a safe and caring environment?

We are a group of volunteers who run a respite care group where carers can drop off their loved ones in a safe and happy environment on a Monday and Thursday morning between 10.30am – 1pm at The Social Centre on Camposol Sector B.  We employ 2 nurses to be at every session and our President who is also an ex nurse is there.  We try to achieve a one to one with our clients so they are helped individually with crafts and bingo that we do at every session.  We also do chair exercises and are very lucky to have 2 volunteers who are trained in Occupational Health and one attends each session.  We now have a timetable of activities for each morning and these are on the tables for clients and volunteers to see and it gives the clients structure to know what is happening and makes them feel more secure.  We have the same timetable each week because we find that clients enjoy routine and look forward to coming to their own little club where they feel safe and happy. Each client gets a free lunch and there is no charge for the group and we have clients not only from Camposol but from surrounding areas such as Bolnuevo, Isla Plana and Totana so don’t feel you are excluded because you don’t live on Camposol.  Our group is a mix of men and ladies and there is something for them all to enjoy – the men particularly enjoy their dominoes when they first arrive but equally they very much enjoy their chair exercises as well.

At our last meeting we had 22 people in the circle for chair exercise and ended playing hoopla with everyone throwing a ring onto a wooden board with poles and they were absolutely thrilled if they achieved ringing a pole. We always need more volunteers and especially male volunteers to interact with our male clients and all our volunteers get so much out of helping at our meetings.  If you feel you can help as a volunteer or if you have a loved one who would benefit from coming to our meetings or you are a carer who would like a few hours a week to yourself please contact Dee on 603 121 416 or  Diane on 711 028 693 or just come along, you will be made very welcome.
