Have You Ever Thought About Fostering?
Our article this month focuses on Fostering and how important it is to us as a charity.

When you Foster a dog, you agree to take that homeless dog into your home and give him or her the love, care and attention that they are so missing in their lives. This could be for a short period of time, (maybe as little as an afternoon in the cases of emergencies), or it could be for weeks or months, but this would obviously be negotiated with the fosterer beforehand.

Fostering is so important, especially for those dogs that have not lived in a home environment before. Allowing these dogs to live in a family setting enables them to be socialised and trained and it provides a stepping stone towards their new home. Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have and by taking an animal in need temporarily into your home, you are freeing up a spot enabling us to take in other dogs that are often waiting in the wings to be saved.

A lot of people tell us that they don’t Foster dogs because “I could never give them back”. We understand that this can be very difficult, but when you see the numerous updates we receive, showing the dog thriving in its new home, the tears and upset are all worth it. Remember, Fostering gives you all the joys of adopting a rescue dog without the long-term commitment and it’s perfect for dog lovers who aren’t ready to adopt a dog just yet.

All applications to Foster are subject to a home check and we provide guidelines to help you with all Fostering procedures. FMA are always on hand to answer any questions you may have, or if any problems should arise. We will support you every step of the way by providing, if necessary, bedding and any other practical things you may need. We also cover the cost of any veterinary treatment whilst the dog is in your care.

FMA is so lucky to have such wonderful Fosterers volunteering for our charity and we really could not operate without them.
