The exhibition ‘Blas de Lezo. El valor de Mediohombre’ can be visited at the Casa del Mar in Puerto de Mazarrón from June 4 to 27. The exhibition was announced by the mayor of the municipality, Gaspar Miras, and the Councillor for Culture, Ginés Campillo, and will feature a series of guided tours that will take place on June 4, 5 and 6.
As Ginés Campillo explained, “10 guided tours will be carried out by Jorge Bañón Verdú, lieutenant of the Spanish Navy. As indicated by the sanitary measures, there will be visits for groups of 6 people who will have to make their reservation ”. To formalize the reservation, you must call 659 08 12 09 from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“This is a good opportunity to get to know the figure of Blas de Lezo”, said Ginés Campillo, who added that “he is one of the most important figures in Spanish naval history. One of the personalities to whom the justice that it should have in our history has probably not been done and that is why we want to contribute with this exhibition to further value his figure ”, concluded the mayor.
The exhibition organized by the Ministry of Defense offers a set of 26 panels, distributed in 8 blocks, which aim to publicize and recover the memory of one of the most outstanding sailors in our naval history. In this way, the exhibition reproduces various moments in the history of the Spanish navigator, such as: his life, his career in the first half of the 18th century, the War of the Spanish Succession and the Battle of Cartagena de Indias.
Entrance to the exhibition is free and open, although with limited capacity due to the pandemic. It can be visited from Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On holidays June 9 (Murcia Region Day) and June 13 (San Antonio) the opening hours will be from 10 am to 1 pm.
The mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, stated that “with this exhibition in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and the Spanish Navy; the Department of Culture of the Mazarrón City Council begins the Cultural programme for the months of summer 2021 ”.
In addition, the mayor announced that “during the next few weeks the extensive cultural programme that the mayor Ginés Campillo has prepared will be announced to, within the new normal, provide both our neighbours and tourists who come to visit us with a series of leisure activities ”. Activities that, as Gaspar Miras indicated, “will make up an offer in the cultural, tourist and festive fields”.
