This summer, for the first time ever, Veronica and Reina took a proper summer holiday; a fortnight away from the day-to-day of Cavalli Foundation and believe me, they really needed the rest! Fortunately we’ve got some amazing volunteers, English and Spanish, who keep the whole centre ticking over.
In the meantime the summer camps in June, July and August were amazing. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and came with a whole new mindset as a result of their experience with the threat and fear of the COVID pandemic. They were well aware of their responsibility towards themselves and those around them and behaved in keeping. As Cavalli is a safe haven where the animals are a source of freedom and peace, the children could happily let their hair down, play and just be children.
The father of one of our Cavalli kids asked Veronica if he could give the children a course in first aid as a camp activity, which was perfect bearing in mind that, during school holidays, kids are often alone at home with an elderly person, younger brothers and sisters, or are playing boisterous games with friends – and accidents do happen. The course taught the children how to phone 112 to ask for assistance, how to lie a person in the correct safety position whilst waiting for professional help to arrive, how to safely dislodge something from the throat of a person who’s choking and how to keep calm at all times. Veronica and Reina welcome parents who would like to get involved with Pony Club and Camp Activities.

On another front, the Cavalli cat family is growing. Nemo, recovered from his operations and his gastric problems, has turned into a gorgeous, long-haired ginger cat. He is totally blind in one eye, but he doesn’t seem to notice. His new companion is now called Socks. She has also made a good recovery after her operation and she and Nemo are the best of friends.

Piglets, Bimba and Lola are quickly developing their social skills now that they live in their enclosure on the patio. They are the big favourites with all our visitors and love the attention they get.
