Happiness! Veronica and Reina celebrating the purchase of the land
Happiness! Veronica and Reina celebrating the purchase of the land

First the good news, and we have so much good news this month that it’s difficult to know where to start!  So I’ll just shout this out as loudly as possible:  Cavalli has finally managed to buy a perfect piece of land in Los Muñoces which will be home for the new Cavalli Ranch and all its new and interesting activities.

Veronica rescued a lovely dog from the forecourts of the businesses lining the main road out of Puerto de Mazarron.  She stopped her car in the rush of midday traffic, jumped out and bundled the dog into the back seat.  It’s a girl, has no chip and obviously hasn’t been cared for because she was covered in fleas and ticks and full of overgrown internal parasites.  Everyone at Cavalli has fallen in love with her. If nobody contacts the Foundation to claim this beautiful young girl, it seems she will be forming part of the Cavalli family..

Every cloud has a silver lining and so it happened during last month’s continuous rain.  The weight of the water knocked down yet another section of our perimeter wall.

Fortunately none of the animals were hurt, nor did any of them get loose on the main road.  Then, within an hour of our call for help, our hero Geert the builder and two colleagues, appeared at the centre to fix the wall and make it safe, and as secure as possible, Veronica posted a fundraising appeal on Facebook which was immediately answered by friends and people interested in Cavalli’s work.  We’d like to say how grateful we are for everyone’s care and generosity.

The donkey, Junior, is now at Andrea’s Animal Rescue in Cartagena where he’s been castrated ready to join the herd at the sanctuary in La Paca in a few weeks’ time, a good effort of collaboration between our two rescue entities.
