Early Learning Riding Project
Early Learning Riding Project

This month Cavalli Foundation would like to say a huge ‘Thank you!’ to Kevin Mcalister, Anne Bennet and all the crew at the Making a Difference organisation in Puerto de Mazarrón for their generous donation of 1,000€ which has sponsored the 6th edition of our project, Early Horse Riding.  The money from the donation is financing 32 therapeutic riding sessions with our rescued horses.  Eight children from 2-6 years of age, with developmental problems, are now enjoying their therapy sessions, as are four of our rescued horses.  The improvement and the mutual benefits have been clearly visible from day one.  What a great way to Make a Difference!

Rescued piglets, Bimba & Lola, are now out in the patio in their brand new enclosure thanks to the work of our most recent volunteer, Ramón Arias.  His company, ‘Ramon Arias,  Soluciones en Construcción y Reformas’ donated Ramón’s fine work and artistry to the Cavalli Foundation and we are all thrilled to have a safe place for the little pigs outside in the fresh air.

Not so lucky have been this season’s goslings.  In all our years of rescue work we haven’t had a problem like the one we’ve had during hatching this Spring.  Of the 7 goslings that hatched, we have managed to save only one by sending it to a home in adoption. An animal has snatched the rest; probably a big tom cat we’ve seen hanging around.  However, we’ve just had 2 late arrivals – goslings that recently hatched, so we are working on a way to keep them safe until they are big enough to take back out to the garden with the rest of the gaggle.

Edition II of Valkiria Therapy with Cavalli’s rescued horses, has just come to an end, resulting in the same resounding success as Edition I.  During this edition, 10 ladies who had suffered gender-related violence, blossomed and flourished together with six of the horses.  Valkiria is a project that Cavalli directs in conjunction with the ladies from the Alhama CAVI.  Having seen the amazing results, Cavalli is looking to local companies in order to finance groups of women from the other CAVI’s in the Murcia Region.

Before signing off we must give a big round of thanks to all the Volunteers who make the work we do at Cavalli Foundation possible.  We are very grateful to Karen Lovejoy and to Sharon Snowden for coming in every Monday and to Sharon for providing the new, shiny yellow wheelbarrow that makes mucking out so much easier.
