We have had a relatively successful Christmas and New Year, with a few sporadic reports of burglaries on Camposol. Whilst these are clearly upsetting for all involved, the frequency is nowhere near what it was twelve months ago. That is in the main, in my opinion, purely due to the number of residents who have either reported suspicious behaviour, or in many cases directly confronted those acting in a suspicious manner. They have no doubt prevented numerous crimes from being committed. This sends out the message that we will not tolerate people upsetting the lives of decent folk who have the right to live without fear of being broken into. A big thank you to everyone who has been involved in any way.
Due to a variety of reasons, we lose active members from time to time and we are always on the lookout for new volunteers to support us. We are not looking for a massive commitment from you; just maybe the odd hour here and there.
What can you do?
Rooftop or terrace watch – this is often the most effective way of helping. Even if you can’t see a lot from your premises, virtually every burglary is committed making a fair amount of noise such as rejas being forced, locks being drilled, doors or windows being jemmied. This noise can often be detected from your terrace or rooftop.
Patrollers are essential to what we do and these figures tend to reduce this time of year. My appeal is directed to the many dog walkers who often walk their pets two or three times a day. Effectively, you are already patrollers. I would just ask you to take notice of your surroundings and in particular any changes you notice. Often people walk the same routes so are more likely to notice any strange person or vehicle. I would ask these people to be vigilant and report anything untoward.
We have a number of Coordinators who look after each Sector on Camposol. We are always grateful of help if anyone wants to get involved in the day to day running of the group. Please message me via facebook if you would like any more information.
We have without doubt made a difference during 2018. Let’s take that into 2019.
Kind regards
Phil Wilcockson
